Canada has just opened a major opportunity for education professionals around the world. On May 1, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted first ever category-based Express Entry draw for educators, inviting 1,000 individuals from education-related occupations to apply for permanent residency. This initiative reflects Canada’s growing need for qualified educators and creates a direct path to Canada PR.
On Feb 27, 2025, IRCC created a new category for educators and on May 1, 2025, IRCC invited 1000 applicants who qualify under educators category. This development reflects Canada’s urgent need to fill growing gaps caused by rising retirements across the education sector, projected to be around 1,83,100 by 2033. It’s a great opportunity for education professionals worldwide to build a long-term future in Canada.

Why This Matters?
According to Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS), in Elementary and Secondary Schools, retirements are soaring:
Year | Projected Retirements |
2025 | 19800 |
2026 | 20600 |
2027 | 21200 |
2028 | 21700 |
2029 | 22200 |
2030 | 22500 |
2031 | 22700 |
2032 | 22700 |
2033 | 22700 |
This adds up to over 1,83,100 retirements by 2033, creating a massive opportunity for qualified people to step in and fill the gap.
Below mentioned table showcases the job opening projections in coming years in Canada in Elementary and Secondary Schools.
Year | Total Job Opening Projections |
2025 | 46500 |
2026 | 39900 |
2027 | 32200 |
2028 | 31300 |
2029 | 31500 |
2030 | 33300 |
2031 | 32900 |
2032 | 33100 |
2033 | 34200 |
